Be part of a global community science project by watching birds at Sylvan Heights Bird Park!

The NC Bird Count is part of the Great Backyard Bird Count, an annual event where citizens watch and count as many birds as possible over four days.  These observations help scientists better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations.

A Sylvan Heights expert will be available in the park’s Tree House from 11 am – 3 pm to help you:

– Locate the best birding locations in the park

– ‎Identify the wild birds you see and hear

– ‎Record your observations in eBird or Merlin

PLEASE NOTE: This count is for wild birds only. Birds seen or heard in the aviaries at Sylvan Heights Bird Park should not be recorded.

You will need:

– ‎Your own binoculars or scope*

– ‎A phone or tablet with eBird or Merlin installed (we can assist you with this!)

‎*We will have a limited number of binoculars available to borrow, but please bring your own if you can.

This event is free with paid park admission or membership. No reservations are required.
