Wings & Wolves Guided Wildlife Tour

Where swans fly and red wolves roam! Join Sylvan Heights birding guides on an adventure through Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.



Come spend the day with Sylvan Heights Bird Park on an adventure through Eastern North Carolina’s Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Our team of educators will take you through migrating waterfowl areas to see ducks, geese, and swans, and finish the day at the Red Wolf Center learning about the world’s most endangered wolf. Both red wolves and waterfowl share these habitats and this area offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

Transportation and lunches will be provided.

This event is for ages 16+

Meeting Location: Sylvan Heights Bird Park- 500 Sylvan Heights Park Way Scotland Neck, NC 27874

SCHEDULE:

Departure from park to refuge area: 9:15 a.m.
Arrival and viewing activities: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Approximately)
Activities include: The Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge for viewing, observation, exploration followed by the Red Wolf Center for an organized program.
Departure and Arrival back at Sylvan Height 5:45 – 6:00 p.m. (Approximately)

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Bird identification guides will be available, however you are encouraged to bring your favorite guide. If you journal or keep sketch books, don’t forget to bring those, too.
  • Binoculars, spotting scopes or cameras
  • Dress for the weather and possible muddy situations within the refuge, even with most viewing from the van. Plan to layer for comfort.

RAIN DATE: In the event of bad weather on January 13th, this tour will be postponed until Saturday, January 27, 2024
