Bat Night at Sylvan Heights!
June 23, 2023 | 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Come and join Sylvan Heights Bird Park as we explore a different type of flying animal that is out of our usual “ordinary”!
Fees: $10 per person/$5 for Sylvan Heights members
Ages 8 and up
Max capacity: 40 people
Guest presenter Brenda Bhatti will join us for an evening program about bats, one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented creatures.
The event will include an indoor introduction to the bats of North Carolina with a follow-up Q&A session. The program will then continue outside for an optional little walk around for participants who would like to join in the search for bats in their natural habitat using bat detection technology (pending suitable weather conditions; sightings not guaranteed, but we’ll look for them!).
The program is suitable for older children (~>8) through adults. Bug repellent, jackets, nighttime walking/hiking footwear, and flashlights are recommended. NO live bats will be in the building or presented in close proximity to participants.
Guest Presenter Background
Brenda Bhatti is a consulting Wildlife Biologist who has participated in bat studies and fieldwork around the country (and internationally) for over 25 years. She has captured and handled over 20 species of bats, including 11 of North Carolina’s 17 bats. She is a member of the Northeast Bat Working Group (NEBWG) and North Carolina Bat Working Group. Ms. Bhatti has been presenting bat educational programming to community organizations, non-profits/conservation groups, state/national parks, nature centers, school classrooms, and others since 1994 and truly enjoys enlightening everyone about the benefits of having these remarkable creatures around!
