Wings & Wolves Guided Wildlife Tour

Where swans fly and red wolves roam! Join Sylvan Heights birding guides on an adventure through Mattamuskeet and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuges, with a visit to the Red Wolf Center.
Tour cost: $150 per person plus tax and fees
Come spend the day with Sylvan Heights Bird Park as we embark on a full day excursion exploring both Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in search of migrating waterfowl. Our team of educators will take you on a guided adventure to see large populations of ducks, geese and swans that winter in eastern NC. Included in this adventure is a trip to the Red Wolf Center in Columbia, NC to learn about the world’s most endangered wolf. Both red wolves and waterfowl share these habitats and this area offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
RAIN DATE: In the event of bad weather on January 11th, this tour will be postponed until January 25th.

Lunch is not provided, but we will be stopping at Martelle’s Feed House Restaurant in Engelhard, NC where guests may purchase their own lunch.
Itinerary
- Depart from park @ 9:00am
- Visit to Red Wolf Center for an organized program @ 10:30am (approximately)
- Lunch at Martelle’s Feed House Restaurant @ 12:30pm (approximately)
- Birdwatching at Mattamuskeet and the Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes NWR @ 1:30-5:30pm
- Return to Sylvan @ 7:00pm

What to bring
- Bird identification guides will be available, however you are encouraged to bring your favorite guide. If you journal or keep sketch books, don’t forget to bring those, too.
- Binoculars
- Dress for the weather and possible muddy situations within the refuge, even with most viewing from the van. Plan to layer for comfort.
Cancellations
Please contact us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend so that we may open your spot up for other guests. Cancellations made within 48 hours of departure are not eligible for refunds.
